Legislative power rests with Congress, consisting of a single chamber of 130 members elected by direct and multiple district in proportion to the population of each region (Lima has 32 congressmen, Mother of God has one). The Congress as a whole is renewed every five years. The start and end dates of a constitutional period are the same that apply to the constitutional term president.
